At Top Ichilov, the treatment of each patient with gastrointestinal diseases involves a comprehensive set of procedures aimed at eliminating not only clinical manifestations but also the underlying cause of the pathology. Therefore, Israeli gastroenterologists have included gastroscopy with biopsy and Helicobacter Pylori testing in their patients' diagnostic examination program.

Preparation for Examination

Helicobacter Pylori Diagnosis in IsraelVarious inflammatory diseases of the digestive tract can be called the epidemic of the 21st century. Esophagitis, gastritis, ulcers, cholecystitis, pancreatitis — all these pathologies are diagnosed annually in millions of patients. Previously, the onset of these diseases was attributed to various factors: stress, poor nutrition, alcohol consumption, smoking. Of course, all these adverse factors significantly increase the risk of developing inflammatory processes in the gastrointestinal tract, however, it is now known that all the aforementioned diseases have a bacterial nature, specifically arising from the presence of Helicobacter Pylori in the body — a bacterium that infects various parts of the stomach and intestines.

  1. Before proceeding with gastroscopy and biopsy for the HP test, the clinic's doctors collect a complete medical history of the patient's life and illness: facts such as previous radiation or surgical treatment of the esophagus and stomach, allergies, blood clotting disorders, heart pathology, and pregnancy must be known to the doctor.
  2. Very important information for Top Ichilov specialists is the list of medications that the patient has taken and/or continues to take over the past two weeks. Some medications, such as antibiotics and acid-reducing agents, can lead to false results. Be sure to inform the doctor about the medications you are taking; it may be necessary to discontinue them for a while.
  3. The same applies to medications that reduce clotting and thin the blood: to prevent bleeding at the biopsy site, it is better to discontinue them temporarily.
  4. For 8 hours before the procedure, food and fluid intake should be limited.

After Gastroscopy

The gastroscopy procedure with biopsy lasts 30—60 minutes. After it is completed, the patient remains under the supervision of doctors until the effects of the sedative medications wear off. The patient will be able to eat after the numbness of the tongue and throat caused by the local anesthetic has completely passed. Due to the intake of sedative medications and the biopsy, it is better not to drive, consume alcohol, eat irritating foods (hot, spicy), or take blood-thinning medications (aspirin, etc.) for 12-14 hours.

Fill out the application on the website and you will receive a FREE consultation from a specialist doctor at a clinic licensed by the Israeli Ministry of Health. Personal information left on the site is strictly confidential and is not shared with third parties.

Who is Gastroscopy with Biopsy and Helicobacter Pylori Testing Indicated For?

In the presence of an inflammatory process in the digestive organs (especially in the upper gastrointestinal tract) and existing symptoms (heartburn, belching, pain syndrome, etc.), the doctors at Top Ichilov may prescribe gastroscopy with subsequent HP testing (urease test), named after the first letters of the bacterium's name Helicobacter Pylori.

Gastroscopy with Biopsy: Procedure

Endoscopic examination with biopsy is an unpleasant procedure; therefore, at Top Ichilov, it is performed under "light" sedation (medication anesthesia), allowing the patient to feel no pain or discomfort.

The doctor introduces an endoscope through the mouth and esophagus into the patient's stomach and examines the gastric mucosa. Then, biopsy forceps are inserted into the endoscope's working channel, with which two pieces of tissue are taken from the antrum and body of the stomach.

The extracted samples are placed in a special reagent, which the doctors use to determine the presence or absence of H. Pylori on the gastric mucosa.
