Liver Polycystosis: Types of Effective Treatment at Top Ihilov Medical Center

Undoubtedly, an effective method for treating liver polycystosis is the surgical removal of cysts – echinococcectomy. The method of surgery is chosen depending on the location and localization of the cyst, the number of cysts, their size, and the presence of threatening factors. Absolute indications for surgical treatment include:

  • ruptured cyst
  • bleeding in the organ
  • purulent infection in the liver.
  • large cyst located at the liver gates, compressing the bile duct
  • formation larger than 10 cm in diameter (any location)
  • symptoms of intoxication observed, etc.

If the cyst is less than 10 cm in diameter and is localized in the III – IV segment of the liver, aspiration puncture and cyst drainage may be performed without surgical intervention; in this case, the decision is made by the attending physician.

Surgical Operations for Diagnosing Cysts in the Liver

  • Puncture and drainage of the cyst, marsupialization, cystoenterostomy, cystogastrostomy.
  • Removal of the cyst along with its capsule using a laparoscopic method, removal of the formation along with a fragment or lobe of the liver.
  • Liver transplantation.

Post-operative care, monitoring the patient's condition, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation – all of this helps restore the patient's health in the shortest possible time.

Medical Procedures

  • Laparoscopy of the gallbladder
  • Therapeutic laparoscopy in Israel

Liver Polycystosis: Accurate Diagnosis at Top Ihilov Medical Center in 3 Days

Liver PolycystosisLiver polycystosis is a benign pathology characterized by the formation of multiple encapsulated fluid accumulations (cysts) in the liver. The disease can be provoked by

  • inflammatory processes
  • traumatic impact
  • neoplastic or parasitic destruction of tissue
  • disruption of embryogenesis.

Cysts in the liver are usually detected during the diagnosis of other pathologies when an ultrasound or CT of the abdominal cavity is performed, as the symptoms of the disease appear only in the advanced stages of the illness.

First Day — Preliminary Consultation

On the first day of the patient's stay in the clinic, they are referred for a consultation with a leading hepatologist, who conducts a primary examination, collects medical history, and studies the results of previous tests if the patient has brought them along. The doctor then develops a plan for basic diagnostics.

Second Day — Diagnosis

On the second day, the patient undergoes the main examinations.

If cysts in the liver are suspected, the following diagnostic procedures are performed:

  • Ultrasound examination enhanced with contrast agent. During the diagnosis, a three-dimensional image of the organ is modeled. The model clearly shows formations, their number, and sizes.
  • If there are small multiple formations, an MRI in a rigid hydrophilic mode is performed. The study shows foci, the number of cysts, their volume, and other characteristics.
  • Spiral CT – an informative research method for cysts of various sizes and locations.
  • Immunological study. Often, an ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) is performed; this procedure is completely safe, and its uniqueness lies in the fact that it can be performed multiple times without harm to the patient. This allows for the use of several types of tests simultaneously. ELISA is the final study that allows determining the treatment strategy.

Third Day — Treatment Plan

On the third day, the diagnostic results are submitted for review to a specially created expert group of leading hepatologists. The doctors develop a treatment plan and then monitor its implementation, making adjustments if necessary.

Modern Diagnostic Methods

  • Computed Tomography
  • Ultrasound
