Treatment of Ureteral Cancer at the Top Ihilov Clinic

Ureteral CancerQualified oncologists at the Top Ihilov Medical Center are thoroughly skilled in advanced methods of ureteral cancer treatment. Most often, malignant neoplasms of the ureter are surgically excised, as the radical method is usually the most effective.

If the ureter is totally affected by the cancer process, oncologists at the Top Ihilov clinic perform nephroureterectomy – resection of the ureter and kidney. However, such a radical procedure is indicated only when the opposite kidney has high functional capabilities. If the neoplasm is located in the lower part of the ureter, it is removed along with the adjacent walls of the bladder. Surgical intervention is accompanied by the formation of a uretero-cystoanastomosis.

Adjuvant chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or topical immunotherapy may be used during postoperative rehabilitation. Often, drug therapy is effective, which oncologists at the Top Ihilov clinic use to achieve regression of the pathological process in patients and long-term stabilization of the disease.

In addition to the listed methods, specialists at the Top Ihilov clinic also actively employ other innovative approaches to treating ureteral cancer.

  • Biological cancer treatment
  • Stem cell therapy
  • Radiation therapy
  • Cancer treatment in Israel using the latest methods
  • Radiosurgery in Israel: CyberKnife and the latest developments
  • Focused ultrasound: FUS ablation

Diagnosis of Ureteral Cancer in Israel

Primary malignant tumours of the ureter are extremely rare. Typically, ureteral cancer develops as a result of metastasis from neoplastic processes in other organs. Implantation metastases from renal pelvis neoplasms are most commonly observed.

First Day

On the very first day of the patient's arrival, they are examined by the leading oncologist. The doctor carefully studies the medical history and any test results brought by the patient, if available, and then a preliminary examination of the patient is conducted. The doctor provides a referral for additional examinations while the clinic staff prepare the necessary documents for treatment.

Second Day

On the second day, diagnostic procedures are carried out.

The basic diagnostic methods for detecting ureteral cancer are cystoscopy, X-ray, and ureter catheterization. Hydro-ureteronephrosis in the late stages of the disease is visualized using excretory urography and retrograde urethrography. The following are also performed:

  • cytological and comprehensive urine analysis;
  • renal angiography;
  • cystourethroscopy;
  • PET-CT;
  • MRI;
  • CT;
  • Ultrasound;
  • biopsy.

Third Day

In the final stage, the patient is managed by a specially created expert group for each specific case, which includes leading specialists from various fields: urologists, oncologists, experts in chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The expert group develops a preliminary plan for comprehensive treatment and then conducts continuous monitoring of the patient's condition.

  • Biopsy
  • Computed Tomography
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Diagnosis – PET CT
  • Ultrasound
