Cholangiocarcinoma: Treatment at Top Ihilov Clinic

CholangiocarcinomaThere are three stages of cholangiocarcinoma, so the treatment of patients with this pathology must be strictly individualized. When choosing a treatment method, the doctor also considers the patient's age and overall physical condition. At Top Ihilov Clinic, three methods of therapy are used: surgical intervention, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
The medical center performs the following types of surgeries:

  • Removal of the bile duct with lymph nodes;
  • Partial hepatectomy, which involves resection of the part of the liver affected by the tumour;
  • Whipple procedure involving the removal of the head of the pancreas, part of the stomach, a segment of the intestine, and the bile duct.
  • If the tumour is inoperable, surgical intervention is performed to ensure bile drainage, bypassing the obstructed ducts caused by the neoplasm.
  • Radiation therapy allows for the slowing of malignant tumour growth using high-frequency X-ray radiation. This method is alternative and is prescribed to patients as a standalone treatment in the late stages of cancer.
  • Chemotherapy aims to destroy atypical cells by introducing special medications into the patient's body. Intravenous administration of the drug ensures the cleansing of the blood from circulating tumour cells. There are also methods where the drug is administered directly into the affected organ.
