Ultrasound in Israel – the latest technologies in instrumental research

Professor Moshe PappaProfessor Moshe Pappa

Head and one of the founders of the Breast Cancer Prevention Center

The ultrasound technology in Israel has reached technological perfection. Thanks to the latest equipment, excellent training, and extensive clinical experience of Israeli functional diagnosticians, this country has one of the highest rates of accurately diagnosed conditions in the world. Local specialists quickly and accurately identify problems, exclude or confirm diseases and functional deviations of any organ, assess the degree of vessel patency and blood flow intensity.

Today, it is impossible to imagine modern examinations without ultrasound, although this informative technology has been practiced for medical purposes for just over 50 years.

30%
of diagnoses made in the CIS countries are not confirmed at Top Ihilov clinic
98%
of patients underwent complete diagnostics in just 3 days

Ultrasound examinations have many advantages:

  • thanks to the latest models of hardware, images are visualized in very high clarity;
  • manipulations are completely painless and absolutely safe;
  • procedures do not require special preliminary preparation;
  • the process is extremely simple to perform;
  • the interpretation of reflected sound waves is one of the fastest and most informative studies;
  • ultrasound machines are widely available and financially accessible;
  • considering the absolute absence of ionizing radiation and the safety of the procedure, it can be performed multiple times.

Indications for ultrasound examination

Ultrasound in Israel

Ultrasound methods are completely harmless. They are applicable to children and adults regardless of age and with any health issues. Ultrasound in Israeli clinics can be performed by individuals on their own initiative or by a doctor's referral.

There are several physiological conditions under which ultrasound is highly advisable:

  1. various disorders of internal organ function requiring detailing and clarification of the clinical picture;
  2. acute injuries of the male reproductive system organs;
  3. thyroid pathologies and formations in the neck area;
  4. scleroderma, rheumatic diseases, and other systemic pathologies;
  5. monitoring nephrological pathologies;
  6. problems with the cardiovascular system with characteristic changes tracked on an electrocardiogram;
  7. respiratory system diseases requiring assessment and determination of the degree of pathological changes in the pleura, pleural cavity, and lungs;
  8. pregnancy, when monitoring the condition and development features of the fetus, placenta, and amniotic fluid is necessary.

Ultrasound in Israel

The method of ultrasound diagnostics is based on the principle of echography. The tissues of the human body have different densities. They conduct ultrasound waves differently, and these visualized differences are clearly recognized by doctors on monitors.

According to Israeli medical statistics, the most commonly performed ultrasound examinations are:

  • of the abdominal organs. During this examination, the ultrasound specialist studies and analyzes the condition of the liver, spleen, pancreas, gallbladder, and its ducts;
  • of the pelvic organs. This examination is mandatory for the female half of humanity. Tests conducted on girls and women allow for the identification of pathologies of the female reproductive system;
  • classical and specific instrumental examinations of the mammary glands. The procedure allows for the diagnosis and precise localization of mastopathy, cystic and tumorous formations;
  • examination of the thyroid gland. A specific test that allows for the detection of diffuse enlargement of the organ, the presence of nodules and tumours;
  • of the heart muscle and vessels;
  • of the kidneys and bladder;
  • of the bladder and prostate gland to identify prostate adenoma, urinary drainage disorders;

examination of the spermatic cords, testicles, and functionality of the male reproductive system.

Features of ultrasound in Israeli clinics

Ultrasound in Israel

The examination is conducted by a qualified functional diagnostics physician. The ultrasound machine consists of a computer control unit with a video monitor. A small sensor is connected to it, combining the ultrasound wave emitter and the receiver of the reflected ultrasound flow.

This is a modern diagnostic imaging device, with which the doctor sees the internal organs of a person on the screen in real-time. The cost of ultrasound in Israel depends on the methodology and purpose of the study. In addition to classical ultrasound tests, Israeli doctors perform specific transrectal and transvaginal diagnostics.

Ultrasound in Israeli hospitals is performed in specially equipped rooms.

  1. Traditionally, the patient lies on a couch.
  2. A special gel is applied to the exposed area of the body. The substance is harmless to the body, does not cause irritation or allergic reactions, and does not contain medications. The purpose of the gel is to eliminate air between the sensor and the skin.
  3. The doctor places a small emitter of high-frequency sound pulses over the examined area and gently presses it against the skin. They penetrate and spread painlessly through the body. The ultrasound wave passes between tissues and organs, reflecting off them.
  4. During transvaginal and transrectal examinations, the receiver-emitter is inserted into the natural cavities of the body. During the examination, a special thin disposable protective cover is placed on the device.
  5. The special sensor records the reflected echo signals, and the computer program transforms them into an image on the monitor. The procedure is non-invasive, lasts several minutes, and has no contraindications.
  6. At the end of the examination, the patient is provided with a printed protocol (image on paper) and the doctor's conclusion.

Before undergoing ultrasound, it is necessary to follow certain rules that will help conduct the study accurately:

  • inform the doctor about all medications being taken;
  • for some studies, such as reproductive system diagnostics or transrectal ultrasound of the prostate, a full bladder and additional bowel cleansing are required;
  • endoscopic examinations of the stomach and intestines conducted the day before the ultrasound may distort the picture of the organ's condition, so the doctor should be informed about these manipulations;
  • functional diagnostics physicians recommend avoiding raw vegetables, fruits, and legumes before the procedure, temporarily limiting the intake of sweets and flour products, as well as carbonated and alcoholic beverages;

if the patient has previous ultrasound results, the doctor should review them to assess changes and create the most complete picture of the changes that have occurred in the body.

Cost of ultrasound in Israel

Ultrasound in IsraelThe examination program is calculated individually. Depending on the purpose of the study, the price of ultrasound in Israel can vary significantly. The calculation is influenced by the diagnostic method. The cost of ultrasound during pregnancy and duplex scanning of intracranial vessels and neck vessels differs significantly. Regardless of the chosen methodology, diagnostics are conducted with extreme accuracy, patients receive medical services of the highest class, and the cost of examinations in Israel is significantly lower than in European or American clinics.
