Treatment of Intestinal Abscess in Israel — Successful Surgeries and Quick Recovery

When choosing a country for treatment, an increasing number of patients are opting for Israel. The growing popularity of the country is determined by a number of factors, primarily one of the highest success rates in the world for therapy, the excellent training and experience of doctors, and the affordable cost of medical services. Treatment of intestinal abscess in Israel involves the surgical removal of the abscess, sanitation of the pathological focus, and antibacterial therapy. Based on the results of a comprehensive examination of the patient, methods of performing the surgery and effective medications are selected. After completing the course, an individual rehabilitation program is developed.

intestinal abscessThe need for urgent surgical treatment necessitates the promptness with which consultations with specialists are conducted and the assigned diagnostic procedures are performed. Using state-of-the-art medical equipment and advanced research techniques, it is possible to quickly identify the abscess and accurately determine its location. Laboratory analysis allows for the establishment of the causes of the purulent process and the sensitivity of the pathogen to antibiotics. All examinations are carried out according to an agreed schedule, comfortably for the patient, as confirmed by reviews left on medical center websites.

Treatment Methods for the Disease

An intestinal abscess is a localized purulent focus formed in the tissues of the intestinal wall. In abdominal surgery, this condition is considered one of the forms of purulent-inflammatory processes developing in the abdominal cavity. The following causes of the pathology are identified:

  • spread of the infectious process from the nearest area (perforation of the intestine, ulcers of various sections of the intestine, peritonitis);
  • complications after surgical interventions — an intestinal abscess can develop in cases of ineffective drainage, accumulation of effusion, retention of damaged tissues;
  • penetration of infection from a distant focus — the infectious-inflammatory process in the intestinal wall can be stimulated by hematogenous (through blood vessels) or lymphogenous (through lymphatic vessels) spread of the pathogenic agent from a purulent focus that developed in a distant internal organ (furunculosis, osteomyelitis).

In some cases, specialists are unable to establish the cause of the disease.

In more than half of the patients, an intestinal abscess develops as a result of infection with Escherichia coli; additionally, the pathology is caused by staphylococci, Proteus, and anaerobic microorganisms.

At the initial stage, clinical signs of the underlying disease manifest. The development of an abscess is indicated by characteristic symptoms: a sharp rise in temperature to high levels, chills, intense pain in the area of the abscess formation, and a noticeable deterioration in the patient's condition. Most often, the pathological process develops rapidly, with a swift increase in the severity of painful manifestations, accumulation of a large amount of infiltrate in the abdominal cavity, and a generally severe condition. In some cases, little infiltrate is formed, which leads to a combination of rapid temperature rise and gradual intensification of pain.

After a certain time, the abscess may rupture into the intestinal lumen or abdominal cavity without medical intervention. If in the first case the patient's condition improves significantly, then the rupture of the abscess into the abdominal cavity leads to complications such as diffuse peritonitis and localized purulent foci. With timely detection of the abscess and adequate treatment, the prognosis is favorable in most cases.

Therapy involves mandatory surgical removal of the abscess, sanitation of the pathological focus, cavity drainage, and an antibacterial and restorative course.

Surgical Treatment

Most often, the intestinal abscess is opened and sanitized during an open surgery (laparotomy), with the incision site determined by the localization of the purulent focus. If the abscess forms in the distal part of the intestine, it may be surgically removed endoscopically, using transrectal access. If the diagnostic examination fails to clearly determine its location or if any difficulties arise during the diagnosis, a median laparotomy is indicated. The advantage of this method of surgical intervention is the ability to access any part of the intestine.

When opening the abscess, all conditions are created for the outflow of purulent contents. After opening the abscess and removing the pus, the abdominal surgeon thoroughly washes the resulting cavity and installs drainage. To prevent the development of recurrence during the intervention, it is necessary to completely evacuate the purulent contents. The operation is performed under endotracheal anesthesia.

Medication Treatment

Surgical opening of the abscess is prescribed in conjunction with antibiotic therapy. Broad-spectrum antibiotics from the groups of aminoglycosides, cephalosporins, and fluoroquinolones are used to suppress inflammation, affecting both aerobic flora and anaerobic microorganisms. Sensitivity to a particular antibiotic is determined during the diagnostic examination.

Diagnostic Methods for the Disease

The diagnostic process is complicated by the similarity of the clinical picture of intestinal abscess with other forms of purulent diseases of the abdominal organs. To establish an accurate diagnosis, it is necessary to differentiate the pathology from other types of abdominal abscesses. In this case, the necessary medical consultations and examinations are carried out in medical centers in Israel in an organized and prompt manner, taking an average of three days.

On the first day of the patient's stay in the country, they visit the initial consultation with the leading abdominal surgeon, which is dedicated to reviewing the results of previous examinations and medical conclusions. The specialist also collects a detailed medical history, conducts superficial and physical examinations, after which a list of additional diagnostic procedures is compiled.

Completion of the examinations included in the list:

- imaging studies (X-ray examination of the abdominal cavity, X-ray with contrast, CT, MSCT, MRI of the abdominal cavity);

- sonography (ultrasound of the abdominal organs);

- laboratory blood tests (general and biochemical analyses).

The results of the conducted studies are reviewed by members of the medical council, consisting of an abdominal surgeon and narrow-profile specialists. Based on the studied indicators, the doctors establish a diagnosis and develop a treatment program.

  • Computed Tomography
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • X-ray
  • Ultrasound

How Much Does Treatment Cost

The cost of the treatment course is ultimately determined based on the results of the diagnostic examination, including the therapeutic procedures and medications in the treatment scheme. It is noted that treatment in Israel costs foreign patients approximately 30-50% less than in clinics of a similar level in Western European countries and the USA.

Advantages of Treatment in Israel

  • Competence and attentiveness of medical staff.
  • Use of innovative therapy methods and medications.
  • Modern technical base.
  • Comfortable conditions for undergoing therapy.
  • Affordable prices.

With timely initiation of therapy, its effectiveness significantly increases. Do not delay, and seek qualified medical assistance immediately after the appearance of symptoms.
