X-ray in Israel

X-ray examinations in Israeli clinics are based on several principles – efficiency, informativeness, low radiation exposure to the patient, and quite acceptable diagnostic costs.

The radiologists at Top Ihilov Clinic use projection radiography when examining the breasts for the detection of breast cancer – this examination is called mammography, in the diagnosis of pneumonia, pneumothorax, other lung diseases, heart failure, intestinal obstruction, and other gastrointestinal pathologies, during dental examinations, and in identifying injuries and fractures of bones, etc.

In the operating rooms of our clinic, intraoperative X-ray (the so-called C-Arm) is also widely used – a device that allows the surgeon to observe the course of the intervention in real-time during minimally invasive surgeries without an open incision.

What X-ray diagnostics represent in Israel

X-ray - experienced radiologistsX-ray diagnostic methods are based on registering the passage of X-ray radiation through the internal structures of the body. X-rays were discovered back in the late 19th century, but they remain a reliable method for investigating various diseases, anomalies, and injuries, especially of bone tissues. These rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation, with a wavelength between gamma rays and ultraviolet light. They pass through different organic and inorganic substances to varying degrees – for example, they pass easily through connective tissues, but with difficulty through bones. By registering them on film or digital media, it is possible to obtain a projection of all internal structures through which the X-ray radiation has passed. This projection is called an X-ray image. Usually, X-rays are taken in two projections so that the doctor can more easily orient themselves by comparing them with each other.

  • The source of X-ray radiation in this type of diagnostics is the X-ray tube – a device that consists of a glass bulb containing a cathode and an anode. When voltage is applied, the cathode begins to emit electrons, which fly out at high speed and strike the anode, resulting in bremsstrahlung radiation – X-rays are emitted in the area of the anode.
  • All existing methods for registering X-rays that have passed through the patient's body can be divided into two groups – film and digital media. The first method of fixing X-ray images was a photograph on a photographic plate, just as the first photographs in the world were created. Then photographic films appeared, and X-ray images began to be fixed using them. Today, such methods have been replaced by more advanced types of X-ray registration, which use detectors that register the flow of radiation and convert the obtained data into digital form. Digital radiography is much more technological and efficient – it frees clinic technicians from the need to develop films and allows the obtained images to be sent via any digital communication channels.
  • Depending on the type of tissues being examined, the mode of projection radiography may vary – this changes both the amount and intensity of radiation received by the patient. Bone tissues require the use of relatively high energy rays – this mode of operation of the X-ray unit is used in the diagnosis of fractures, identification of foreign objects, infections of bone tissue (osteomyelitis), pathologies (osteoarthritis, neoplastic bone formations), and deformities (scoliosis, achondroplasia, etc.).
  • A softer mode of operation of the X-ray unit is used in the diagnosis of soft tissue pathologies. In this case, radiation with lower penetrating ability is applied. Usually, this mode is used to examine the condition of the lungs and heart (this examination is extremely widespread and is called "chest X-ray"). This mode can also be used to examine the condition of the soft tissues of the neck, eye sockets, and others.
  • X-ray examinations, compared to other types of radiation diagnostics (particularly computed tomography and positron emission tomography), have a much softer radiation load. For example, even with a complete X-ray examination of the spine, the patient receives a radiation dose of 1.5 millisieverts, comparable to the dose of natural radiation that each person receives over several months. And with X-ray imaging of the limbs, the patient receives a dose of 0.001 millisieverts – the amount of radiation that any resident of the planet receives in natural conditions over 3 hours.
  • A factor that can be relied upon when assessing how effective X-ray examination is in Israel is patient feedback, both from citizens and visitors to the country. Such feedback can be found on many Internet resources, where people highly appreciate both the accuracy of the digital X-ray systems installed in Israeli clinics and the good level of training of radiologists and specialists interpreting the images.
  • Therefore, if you do not know where to undergo X-ray examination in Israel, patient reviews about a specific clinic will help you make a choice.

X-ray in Israel – prices

The cost of X-ray in Israel is favorably distinguished from similar types of examinations conducted in clinics in European countries, the USA, Canada, and Asian countries. For example, an X-ray examination conducted at the Top Ihilov center allows savings of up to 30-40% compared to clinics in the aforementioned countries.
