Cesarean Section as Close as Possible to Natural Birth

Specialists from the Liss Maternity Hospital, operating at the Ichilov Medical Center in Tel Aviv and the second largest in the country, have successfully tested a new device that will allow women undergoing cesarean sections to observe the birth process of their baby. This involves a special transparent partition developed by Cardinal Health.
During the cesarean section procedure, the partition with a transparent window is installed between the surgical field and the face of the mother, allowing her to follow the course of the intervention and see the moment her baby is born. This innovation perfectly fits into the concept of keeping mother and baby together, which is followed by most maternity hospitals in Israel, and allows the woman to have contact with the infant from the moment of birth.
Currently, obstetric departments in Israeli clinics use fabric partitions during cesarean sections to ensure sterility. However, they do not allow the mother to see her child being born. The new device, as noted by the head of the maternity department at Ichilov Hospital and chairman of the Israeli Neonatologists Association, Professor Ariel Mani, is also fabric but has a transparent window that doctors can open at the request of the woman who wishes to observe the procedure.
The professor also noted that the device can only be used during planned surgeries and only if the mother is in good health and wishes to follow the procedure. If the cesarean section is performed urgently, the transparent partition is not used.
The women who participated in the trial are satisfied with their experience. They say that thanks to the new device, the cesarean section procedure becomes as close as possible to natural birth and provides the opportunity to witness the priceless moment – the moment of their own child's birth.
